Your Symptoms Are Real, IBS Isn’t
If you have been told you have IBS, if you struggle with bloating, abdominal pain, constipation, diarrhea and you’ve been told there’s no reason and there’s nothing you can do, this one is for you.
Every day I see people who are struggling with some form of digestive issue and have felt like they “just have to live with it” but when we look deeper, we find there are reasons and there are things they can do.
Here are the most common causes of IBS I see in my practice
1 Nervous System - If you know me you’ve heard me say before how ESSENTIAL the nervous system is. Your entire digestive process can be turned ON or OFF by your nervous system. Meaning, it may not be a digestive or gut issue at all but rather high stress, anxiety, etc can be creating digestive weakness and the symptoms you’re experiencing. Getting to the real root of your digestive issues starts with a regulated nervous system. PS. You wouldn’t believe the amount of clients who start doing breathwork and see a noticeable change in their digestive function. Try it this week for free.
2 Digestive Weakness - If you can’t properly digest food due to a weakness somewhere in the digestive process, you will often experience weird digestive issues. Sometimes it’s as simple as you’re not chewing your food or your stomach acid is weak. To deeper issues like sluggish (or no) gallbladder, enzyme deficiencies, etc. Before blaming our gut health, we need to look upstream to see how well our digestion is working. In my Live Blood analysis sessions, I find for people with IBS symptoms, digestion is almost always weak.
3 Leaky Gut, Pathogen overgrowths, parasites, fungal, etc - These are the downstream effects of the first two. We gotta correct the nervous system and digestive function before we start looking here, because often, once we fix those (and get on a healthy diet), our gut starts to clean up itself. Making detox protocols unnecessary. There are cases however, where a deeper gut detox/repair is required. These gut issues can be drivers of inflammation, pain, food sensitivities, and other symptoms you may be experiencing. If you suspect this may be a driver for you, plz ensure you get support from a practitioner before you start taking random internet detoxes.
4 Endocrine Imbalance - This one isn’t often thought of. Could your thyroid issues be impacting your gut? Absolutely! Your body works as a whole, if there is a hormonal imbalance happening, that can cause IBS type symptoms. Now it is important to think about, why the hormones are out of balance in the first place. Because like anything in the body, it doesn’t just happen ‘randomly’. Your body is a holistic machine, every part working together. If there is an imbalance in one area, it will affect the other and vice versa.
Why Didn’t I Mention Food???
Often, people focus on foods being the issue and start restricting their diet without addressing the real root cause… Yes, certain foods like gluten and dairy being the most common can contribute to IBS symptoms and taking them out of the diet can be helpful. AND, sometimes, when we clean up the other pieces (nervous system, digestion, leaky gut, etc), the foods no longer bother us because we addressed the real root of the problem.
As you can see there are MANY reasons why IBS can be a problem and when we find the why, we also can uncover the solution!
