4 Simple Daily Shifts to Get Out of Fight or Flight and Boost Your Energy
If you watched my last video you learned that in order for us to get out of fight-or-flight, stop living in survival mode, we have to create safety in the mind and body and how that signal can be turned on by emotional life stress (of course) but also biological stress.
And while for some of us (HEY HI THATS ME) we need to do the deeper inner work around this, there are SIMPLE things you can start to do each day to help tell your brain “I’m safe now”
Small shifts you can make even if your life is busy that can lower that stress, just a lil bit.
So here’s how you can start to shift yourself out of fight-or-flight mode without it feeling like you gotta change everything.
I explain it all in this video so check it out if you wanna dive deeper into this topic
Small Daily Steps to Get Out Of Survival Mode
Blood sugar balanced meals - Every time you spike out of your healthy blood sugar window you create biological stress. Instead, balance your meals with protein, fibre, and healthy fats (PFF is your BFF) to keep your blood sugar and energy levels steady.
Breakfast within the first hour of waking - You should really watch the video for my description of this one … essentially if you start your day without breakfast, your brain can turn on that stress response, thinking you’re in danger bc you don’t have nutrients. Having a blood sugar balanced meal within the first hour of waking can lower this response (note everyBODYs needs are different in terms of if fasting is helpful or not andddd if you’re in survival mode, breakfast may be essential for you)
Completing the stress cycle - Every day you get stressed you need to “RUN AWAY from the bear” so to speak. Show your brain you got away from the threat, it's over, all done. At the end of the day, do some kind of movement to release the stress hormones, completing the stress cycle.
Shift into rest-and-digest with breathwork - Once you got away from the bear (YAY) now it’s time to come into rest and digest. Breathwork is one of the best tools to help regulate your nervous system, get into rest mode, calm your mind, release stress, and when done consistently (daily) increasing your capacity to handle stress in your life (again I explain this in more detail in the video). Now I can guarantee this can change how you feel anddddd the only way that happens is if you do it.
