Why you should stop taking health advice from the internet
Watch the Video
Let me start by saying, I see the irony in this post
Preface: I’m a BIG fan of advocating for yourself and doing your own research, because now more than ever, no one is coming to save you. & the amount of information you’re taking in is too much.
Have you ever felt overwhelmed after an IG scroll session where your chest is tight, your belly feels anxious, and your head is SPINNING because you read 10 posts that all told you something different? I sure as hell have.
The problem with getting health advice from the internet:
It’s too much too fast - you’re taking in WAY more info than your body has time to process (hello feelings of overwhelm)
Most of it is GOOD but it’s not what YOU need
There’s no application - you’re sitting on a pile of knowledge without making any changes
The problem with getting health advice on the internet
Just because it works for someone, doesn’t mean it works for you
Example: Hair shedding
What could be causing it? Thyroid, Low protein intake, poor digestion (weak stomach acid, not chewing), poor absorption (gut issues), High Stress, Body has increased need, Trauma, Hormone Imbalance (ex. menopause), Thyroid Imbalance, ___
One social media post takes ONE of these and says, “hair falling out, just eat more protein.”
Next social media post takes one of these and says, “it’s menopause.”
Next social media post takes one of these and says, “your thyroid is off.”
You’re left sitting there like, well, wtf is it? This ONE symptom could be linked to SO many causes, wtf do I do?
What you do is find what YOUR body is asking for. Personalization, listening to the messages your body is sending you, and intuitively - what do you feel is causing it (9 times out of 10, what you ‘feel’ like it is is correct)
I LOVE that we have so much awareness of health information on the web these days AND it only does us any good if we are first connected to the body and know what our bodies need.
